What is the "Growth Task Team"?
If you followed the stewardship and budgeting work over the months leading up to the Congregational Meeting in January, you know that Atonement is struggling with financial challenges right now. It became clear to the Council that the financial struggle is a symptom of a larger challenge: growth. This is why Vice President Steve Klaers brought a motion at the Congregational Meeting to form a "Task Team" charged to work on producing a growth plan.
From the Congregational Meeting on January 23, 2005:
Steve Klaers made a motion to create a special task team of Steve, 6 Congregation members, one Pastor and a Professional Facilitator. The Team would be empowered to explore a 3-5 year growth plan for the Church. Marilyn Nelson 2nd and motion passed.
That team has begun its work and
has set a goal of bringing a plan to the Congregation when it meets again
in May.
The work of the team is being supported
by Shirley Teig, a professional facilitator who comes very highly recommended
and has worked with numerous churches and other organizations. (Please contact
Steve Klaers if you are interested in helping to provide financial support
for her services.)
Growth is a central concern
expressed in our Mission
and Vision Statements. The Mission Statement is explicitly about growth:
numerical growth (make disciples) and spiritual growth (grow disciples). The
Vision Statement is a recipe for growth in a missionary context in
which believers are called to go out and deliver love and invitations without
waiting for people to come. In light of this, Ms. Teig has started the Team
right off planning an event for the congregation to focus on growth by exploring
how we can live into our Mission and Vision and the opportunities and challenges
we might face. You can read more about this "Growth
Gathering" elsewhere in the newsletter.
You can expect to hear more from the "GTT" in the coming weeks and months. There will be "Mission Minute" updates frequently in worship. Meeting minutes and other materials will be available on Atonement's web site at www.Deliver4Jesus.org and posted on the bulletin board in the Narthex. You're also encouraged to contact any of the Team members with your questions or comments, and please keep them all in your prayers.
