Tuesday April 5th
Why should we change? Where do we start?
There’s a lot of uncertainty – and a fair amount of anxiety – about what’s going on in the life of Atonement these days. Why do so many things seem harder now than before? What’s going on with us financially? Have we become two separate congregations? And there’s all this talk about change, but what specifically needs to change – and why? Plus, what exactly are we supposed to do with our new Mission, Vision and Values statements? I’ve heard these questions echoed in various ways in my recent listening visits throughout the congregation.
For nearly a year now (longer, really) I’ve been working with the Council to come to a shared understanding of what’s going on in our culture and our congregation that gives rise to these questions, and to determine how we can address them. So I’m thrilled and delighted that we are now ready to bring this out to the congregation more directly than ever before beginning with the Vision Coaching session on Tuesday, April 5th from 7:00 – 8:00 pm. This session is being specifically prepared for the leaders and members of committees, teams and groups in the congregation, but members in the congregation at large are urged to come as well. It will focus on what’s changed in the culture around us, how we’re experiencing that at Atonement, and how our Mission and Vision relate to the situation we now find ourselves in. The goal will be to lay a common foundation that will allow people to see for themselves the priorities that emerge and generate their own ideas about how to pursue them. That’s why we’re using “coaching” as our metaphor, since we’re working to “equip the players” with the information and perspective they need to “move the ball down the field” together as a team.
Please plan on joining us for this important time together! (And since we’ll be ending at 8:00, committees and teams are invited to consider moving their regular meetings to that time to save themselves an evening out this month!)
